Monday meal plan down! Only hiccup was the cookie I ate after lunch. It was small. It’ll be fine.
There are a lot of hard things about losing weight. Dieting is hard, not getting to eat as much as you think you want is hard, not getting to eat what you think you want is hard. Exercise is hard, planning is hard, shopping is hard. There are a lot of hard things about losing weight.
One of the big things that can feel demotivating is thinking that you have to cut yourself off from your favorite foods. Which, let’s face it, is kind of true. (Kind of.) I mean, think about it. It’s not the grapes that got me here. Even if I can schedule in a serving of macaroni and cheese, I can’t have nearly as much as I want. (Because mac n cheese is my biggest weakness and I want to eat the whole box.) Having this hanging over my head every day is a BIG demotivator.
So, this week, I’m going to challenge myself to use six Noom #PsychTricks to focus on what I can have instead of what I can’t. Deprivation is demotivating; addition is motivating!
Noom #PsychTrick #1: Add a new food to your grocery list each week (Noom article, “Apply Positive Reinforcement to Your Food Choices”). Some Noom suggestions are Jicama, Rutabaga, and Jackfruit, among others. I’ve had jicama and it’s… okay. It’s sorta sweet and sorta crunchy but too much makes me feel sick to my stomach. I’ve never had a rutabaga (at least, I don’t think I have) and I’ve never even heard of Jackfruit. Which, honestly, gives me a good place to start.
I’ve already added in a new food for this week on my own and added turnip or collard greens to dinner for Friday. I’ve had both turnip and collard greens before but have never tried my hand at cooking them myself, so this should be fun! I love to cook and learning new skills is very motivating for me.
I’ll keep you posted.
